ASTRAL and OPEN ARMS

El Astral fue el primer barco que la organización Open Arms tuvo para llevar a cabo sus misiones de rescate en el Mediterráneo. Fue durante este tiempo en el astillero que tuve la oportunidad de hablar con @savvaskourepinis , quien ha estado a bordo del Astral desde el principio y ahora es su capitán.

La historia del barco está muy ligada a las misiones de rescate y vigilancia que ahora desempeña para Open Arms. Desde sus inicios sirvió de barco de entrenamiento para los guardacostas y sirvió durante la guerra de Israel para llevar gente hasta chipre. Fue donado a Open Arms en en junio de 2016 y desde entonces, Savvas está a bordo. Su relación con el barco es intensa y lo conoce palmo a palmo.

It was donated to Open Arms in June 2016, and since then, Savvas has been on board. His relationship with the ship is intense, and he knows every inch of it.

During its weeks in the marina, he and the volunteer crew, along with the shipyard and marina team, worked tirelessly to get the Astral back in the water and continue its mission of saving lives.
